Artist Statement
I come from a lineage of storytellers and community healers who have bequeathed their turbulent histories in order that they be transformed. I live this calling through my creative practice which comes alive at the intersection of art and metaphysics.
I employ words (written and spoken), the full power of the video medium (2D and 3D/installation, conceptual, linear) as well as my own body in ways confessional, performative and auto-biographical to create spaces for elevating a higher vibrational expression of humanness. Informed by notions of gender and sexuality (particularly archetypal concepts of the feminine), power and the body (as a physical but also psycho-spiritual space), my work is guided by a desire to build bridges in human understanding and in our relationship to this planet we call home.
I use and invoke symbols and concepts central to the Dharmic traditions of my people - such as respect for the natural elements, the potential of the circle and the vibrational imprint of the planetary deities - in ways literal as well as suggestive. I am inspired by the power of congregational spaces as locations for deep connection and the coming together of seemingly distinct human experiences and seek to create such spaces with my work in order to offer a bridge between the seen and unseen, between the tangible and the intangible and in so doing, reassert the presence of divinity and consciousness in every living thing.
My studio is the living world and my practice is centered on daily rituals of reverence of the same.
